Law Schools in Kenya provide professional qualifications at a number of different levels including undergraduate LLB and postgraduate LLM degrees. The Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree provides students with a sound knowledge of the principles of the Kenyan, regional and international legal systems. Graduates are empowered to critically assess, interpret and apply the law with a historical, comparative and jurisprudential background that is essential for a thorough and critical understanding of law and legal institutions.
The Bachelor of Laws degree curriculum includes a skills component which teaches students generic practical skills such as problem solving, analysis, research and practical legal skills such as legal writing, drafting and argumentation. Graduates are equipped with highly marketable and transferable skills, such as, legal writing, research, and reasoning, critical thinking, statutory interpretation, oral advocacy, negotiation, case management, client care, efficiency, and time management, which will prove invaluable in whichever career path they will eventually choose. Law students are required to make constructive use of the knowledge and skills they acquire by contributing to national development and the community through legal aid, community service, street law and similar outreach activities.

Entry Requirements
  •  Catholic University
a) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with the minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) or the equivalent OR
b) Kenya Advanced Certificate of education with a minimum of 2 principal passes and a subsidiary in general paper with a total of 10 points or the equivalent OR
c) Diploma or professional certificate in a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by the senate OR
d) A Bachelors Degree from a recognized university; AND
e) A minimum grade of B plain in English at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or the equivalent OR
f) Any other qualification accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to any of the above.

  • Kenyatta University
 Candidates for the Bachelor of Laws Programme must have attained a mean grade of B in the Kenya Certi cate of Secondary Education (KCSE) including a minimum of B (Plain) in English.

Candidates may also qualify for admission with any other type of quali cation including the formerA - Level’ Kenyan system, regional, or international qualifi cations that are equivalent to the minimum requirements outlined above.

  • Jommo Kenyatta University
A mean grade of C+( C PLUS) in KCSE and a minimum grade B (B Plain) in English OR
KACE Certificate with a minimum of two Principal passes (Principal A,B or C in each subject taken) OR
A Degree(s) from a recognized University OR
A Distinction or Credit  passes in a two year relevant Diploma from a  recognized institution

  • Moi University
A mean grade of a C+ (C plus) and B (B plain) in English in KCSE.
KACE: At least 2 principals and a subsidiary OR
A first degree in any other discipline

  • Strathmore University
KCSE (or equivalent) with a minimum mean grade of B+ and a minimum of A- in English or 
KACE with a minimum of two principal passes and one subsidiary pass or
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with grade 4 and 5 in Mathematics and English respectively or
An undergraduate degree from an institution recognised by the Academic Council.
